{"id":502,"date":"2019-10-27T06:43:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-27T06:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/0h5.7c5.myftpupload.com\/?p=502"},"modified":"2019-10-27T07:21:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-27T07:21:00","slug":"gambling-commission-publishes-the-2019-report-on-children-trends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gambless.org\/it\/gambling-commission-publishes-the-2019-report-on-children-trends\/","title":{"rendered":"Gambling Commission publishes the 2019 report on children trends"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/0h5.7c5.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/5664672-6343069-image-a-1_1541092625338.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-509\" width=\"158\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gambless.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/5664672-6343069-image-a-1_1541092625338.png 625w, https:\/\/gambless.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/5664672-6343069-image-a-1_1541092625338-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 158px) 100vw, 158px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The UKGC has published the <strong>2019 Young People &amp; Gambling<\/strong> <strong>survey<\/strong> which looks at gambling trends of 11-16 year olds in the United Kingdom.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey focused on gambling and gambling style games that young people take part in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The findings show that 36% of children that took part in the survey say they have spent their own money on gambling in the past twelve months, while 11% of these 11-16 year olds did so in the past seven days. The numbers are slightly down compared to 2018, when they ware 39% and 14% respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common type of gambling activity that young people are taking part in is private bets or playing cards with friends for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, some of the children report buying National Lottery scratchcards in a shop, as well as playing fruit or slot machines, an activity that usually takes place in family arcades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tim Miller, Executive Director of the UKGC commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Any child or young person that experiences harm from these areas is a concern to us and we are absolutely committed to doing everything we can to protect them from gambling harms.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We must keep working to prevent children and young people from having access to age restricted products.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Protecting children and young people from gambling harms is a collective responsibility and requires us, other regulators, the government, gambling operators, charities, teachers and parents to work together to make progress.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are some of the headline findings from the study:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><tbody><col width=\"10%\"><col width=\"90%\"><tr><td>11%<\/td><td>of 11-16 year olds say they spent their own money on gambling activities in the seven days prior to taking part in the survey. This is down from 14% in 2018.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>5%<\/td><td>of 11-16 year olds say they have placed a private bet for money (e.g. with friends) in the past seven days, with a further 3% playing cards for money with friends in the past seven days.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>4%<\/td><td>of 11-16 year olds report playing on fruit or slot machines in the past seven days.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>3%<\/td><td>of 11- 16 year olds say they have played National Lottery scratchcards and 2% say they have played the Lotto (the main National Lottery) draw in the past seven days.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>69%<\/td><td>of 11-16 year olds say they have seen or heard gambling adverts or sponsorship with 83% of those saying that it had not prompted them to gamble.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>1.7%<\/td><td>of 11-16 year olds are classified as \u2018problem\u2019 gamblers, 2.7% as \u2018at risk, using the DSM-IV-MR-J-screen. In 2018, 1.7% of 11-16 year olds were classified as \u2018problem gamblers\u2019 and 2.2% were classified as \u2018at risk\u2019.
