Time Management

  • by

Time management is a topic often discussed for people with internet or video games addiction. But for people who have troubles dealing with their gambling habits, some advices on time management can also be useful.

To understand if you may have a gambling problem, you can ask yourself a simple question: is this causing you significant distress or dysfunction in your daily life?

Problems that – if you looked at honestly – you’d have to admit they were pretty serious. We are talking about sleep deprivation, low work performance, financial troubles and issues in your relationships both with your friends and your significant other.

So, beside our tips on financial management, here’s also 5 tips to help you manage your time more efficiently:

  • Prioritise: sit down and make a list of what’s important. This means everything, from long-range goals to daily to-do’s: work, walking the dog, spending time with your family, eating breakfast every day, buying a Lambo — anything you wish.
  • Schedule them in: now the task is to plan each of these goals and activities, to make sure they are put in action. How much time will you spend working today, and eating or walking the dog? Likewise, write down when and how much time you want to allocate to gambling.
  • Break down your goals: if among your goals there are things that may seem impossible to you now – like buying a Lamborghini or getting a perfect six pack before summer – break them down into small tasks that can get you closer to those goals. For example, the first steps toward those could be getting a promotion at work, and start jogging or doing sports. Do these seem impossible now?
  • Spend one day without gambling at all: because sometimes you just need to cool off and take a break. Try something new, or activities that you once liked but haven’t done in a while. You might start to appreciate other hobbies as well. Maybe you’ll find out that you like archery, or painting, or gardening.
  • Let it go: don’t chase your losses, ever. If you sat at a blackjack table with a $10 budget and a 30 minute limit in mind, stick to your original plan. Playing more or taking more risks won’t get your money back, that happens just in the movies. The more you will play, the more you will lose. Casinos know it well, be smarter!
